Default Problem with SUPERSONIC SLOW Spry in IE

Dear Users,

I am having a problem with my site: www.jessielynnimages.com

A week or so ago the spry was working perfectly in IE... then I added
meta-data to all of the pages, and now the Spry menu bars are working so slowly
it seems that it is broken altogether. It works just fine in Firefox... Can
anyone look at the source code for me...and give me some advice? The problem
is running throughout the entire site, not just the homepage where I am running
a brief flash animation. I'm a little lost..

Thank you for your help in advance!

Maybe IE is choking because your html is malformed.

</script>
/>
</head>

You should remove the />
By the way, I use Vista with IE7 and it's working fine.

Mark,

Thank you so much for replying...I thought I was left to drown out here .
Ahhh,... you know I'm still having the same trouble here at home on IE 6.0.29
It's so strange, because friends who check it out for me on their computers are
seeing the site perfectly. I'm afraid to send it out to clients before I know
all glitches are gone!...

The strange thing is, when I view other sites with spry drop-down menus they
work perfectly, but for some reason not my own site. Do you have any ideas
what could be causing this problem.

I fixed the issue you suggested above. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jessie

Hallo p-p, I'm experiencing something similar. My Sprymenubarhorizontal runs
perfectly in Firefox, but is dead slow in IE 7. The top menu items load, but on
mouse-over the IE tabs shows that it is processing info (a little IE 'rotating'
circle appears in the tab ear), it then produces the next level of the menu -
but only after a few seconds, which feels like an eternity. And so it continues
as you go deeper into the menu.

I've validated my pages menu content file (I've put a server side include into
my pages with the content in a separate file). But that didn't sort out the
problem.

I've now update my Spry from 1.4 to 1.6.1, as I've read somewhere that this my
help (although there was no feedback on whether it solved the problem...).
Update was downloaded at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/. Once
downloaded you have to run the 'updater' file in the dowloaded folders (...spry
1.6.1 24oct08\spry_p1-6-1_022508\Spry_1_6_1_022408\dreamweaver) to install an
extension to Dreamweaver - which enables the new version of Spry. As far as I
can tell the Spry script and css updates are then available, but not
automatically applied to your existing sites. It's probably a good idea to
backup your existing site files before messing around with the new spry...

I haven't tried using the updated version myself yet and won't be able to do
so before tomorrow at the earliest.

I'm frustrated by how little info is out there on this issue. Googling brought
up your post, an unanswered post in some or other forum and a question posed on
"Exchange Experts" (something like that) - where you have to subscribe and pay
a monthly fee and hope their answer solves your question... I'm not willing to
go that route.

I'll let you know if I get any solution and will be watching this thread with
hope in my heart :-). 'till later!

Dear afrilux,

I did download the newer version of Spry and then installed it on the stie.
Warning: this erases any changes in the CSS re-styling that you might have
done to your original spry... and it did not solve my problem.

Honestly, I am so glad to hear that someone else is having the same problem
out there. I felt kind of lost, because there seems to be so little support
for Spry out there.

A designer friend said that spry is notoriously slow and encouraged me to
design more simply for the most efficiency--efficiency being the most important
quality a user is looking for. So, I'm planning on a re-design for my menu
bar. Surprisingly, the spry-efects on images and the tabbed spry panel work
just fine in IE and Firefox.... so strange that the menu bar isn't working...

This will be my re-design: http://www.jessielynnimages.com/index_trial2.html

Maybe Adobe will pick up on this and put some more information out there. I'm
totally frustrated with it myself!

Thanks for your reply. I would still be interested in finding out how to fix
it if the answer comes up.

Sincerely,
Jessie

Massive Slowdown Issue

I had been running a page on w2k IIS5 that used spry, and then upgraded to 2k3
IIS6 and around the same time everything massively slowed down. We didnt
upgrade our browsers in the organization, which makes me suspect the server
upgrade. The only customization required to make the spry "work" was enabling
the mime type for .rss and .xml

.rss application/rss+xml
.xml application/xml

Can anyone relate? =)

The problem is the large size of the images. They have to be optimized and its size reduced.
